Web Success and how to achieve it.

Web Success and how to achieve it.
By Clare Lawrence 19th August 2004

How long does it take to get a website to a respectable ranking?

This very much depends on the competitiveness of your chosen field and the strength of the sites within it.

It also depends on your own level of personal commitment. If you’re prepared to put the hours in, you will get there sooner.

Contrary to popular myth, it’s hard to get good rankings and harder still to make commercial returns.

To be successful you need to design a site that appeals to the search engines and humans.

Comparing and contrasting:

Search engines like

- Lots of text
- Links with key phrases
- static sites
- small page sizes

Humans like:-

- lots of images
- dynamic

pages
- flash images etc

You need to combine these diverging needs into something that works.

Search engines place a premium on fresh content so to be successful, you need to keep a site up to date and constantly add links

Competitors will be working on improving on your ideas and out linking you.

Be patient, but in the end there will be rewards, both personal and financially.

Don’t forget to have fun too!
